A Few of My Favorite Things: October Edition

Full disclosure: I’m not that into Halloween.

I appreciate the creativity of it, but truth be told – when it comes to Halloween, I’m lazy. And cheap. A smattering of face paint is about as far as I’ll go, and even that’s a stretch.

So instead, my husband and I celebrate “Halloween Hooky,” a unofficial holiday we created last year. He gets the day off from work (one of the perks of working in a brewery, I guess) and I take a vacation day so we can do something fun together. Last year we were uber cultural and went to Chicago’s Field Museum for the 1893 World’s Fair exhibit, and this year we’re keeping the cultural theme going with a trip to the Museum of Contemporary Art for the David Bowie Is exhibit. Follow along with me on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #HalloweenHooky.

Regardless of how you do or don’t celebrate Halloween, here’s to hoping you’re enjoying some treats today – whatever they may be. And, speaking of treats, here are a few things that I really enjoyed this month:

October Favorites from freshandfoodie.com @freshandfoodie

Dove’s Luncheonette | Skull Door Mat from Target
Vintage Records from my parents | New fall flavors from Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams

  1. this is so cute! #HalloweenHooky is for sure going to be added to my Halloween day. It’s such an awesome idea. I also don’t really celebrate Halloween. I kinda just lay around and do nothing. But I love how you and your hubby made your own holiday out of it. Can’t wait to try it out with my boyfriend ❤ thanks for the idea!
